This summer we piloted a project with high school interns to create 3D plant models to be used in virtual reality experiences we are creating and to be shared through the zSpace platform. The models were developed in collaborative teams composed of art-, tech- and science-oriented students. The students were benefitted in different ways: gained skills in 3D modeling using Fusion 360 facing problem-solving challenges; learned science content link to research conducted at the Danforth Center; became more aware about plants; realized the importance of science in art and design and vice versa; were exposed to science communication through their presentations to a group of scientists; practiced working in teams virtually.
